Some of the best beauty tips are the ones passed from mother to daughter or between friends. They often involve using household items in odd ways. But if they work, why not? The grayish pellets in cat litter are made of bentonite clay which is also found in many facial cleansers and masks. Mixing unscented cat litter with a bit of water gives a muddy mixture that can be used on your face as a mask. It is much cheaper than most face products and can help clear up your skin, leaving it softer and smoother.

Many have known that cucumbers can reduce eye puffiness but few are aware that potatoes do the same. The starch in potatoes acts an anti-inflammatory agent. The best method involves peeling and washing a potato then finely grating it. The potato is then squeezed together in a clean cloth to make a poultice for the eyes.

Even the thinnest people often struggle with spots of cellulite that they are trying to get rid of. One thing that may help is using coffee grounds as a body scrub. The scrub uses fresh ground coffee mixed with extra virgin olive oil which is then warmed up and massaged into trouble areas. The caffeine in the coffee grounds supposedly increase circulation to the skin which helps combat the cellulite.

It is hard to believe that anybody would be willing to put mayonnaise in their hair but many people swear by this solution to dry hair. The fat and oils found in mayo make it seemed less dry because it coats the hair with oil, the same method used in many hair products. Those hair products won’t make you smell like mayonnaise though, so you may want to stick with them.

5. Urine to Clear Acne

Acne can get fairly severe and difficult to clear up for many people. There are hundreds of acne products but nothing seems to work for some, so they resort to using urine on their face. Most say they dip a cotton ball into their pee, rub it on their face, and wash it off with water after 15 minutes. This comes from the belief that urine can act as a cure-all elixir, but most doctors say it contains nothing that would help with skin problems.

One of the best moisturizers is diaper rash cream. Besides working on dry spots it can also help with many small skin ailments and even be used as sunscreen. It can be used after shaving to reduce bumps from the razor or be used to heal cuts and scrapes quicker. It contains zinc oxide which is where many of the benefits come from. Zinc oxide is found in many anti-wrinkle creams, so diaper rash cream may be able to replace that also.

Bodybuilders are said to be the originators of this beauty tip. An unscented cooking spray, such as Pam, is rubbed on the skin to make it appear glowing and healthy. Many other oils can accomplish the same thing. And the skin of some people can be irritated by the ingredients in cooking spray, so it is best that this is avoided.

This tip has been around for a long time because of how great it works. Vegetable shortening can remove makeup easily and is especially good for people with dry skin because other makeup removers may be too harsh. The shortening is greasy because of all the oil it contains, so if oily skin is a problem it will be exacerbated.

Cat litter is not they only household item that you can make a face mask out of. Even if you don’t have a cat you probably got an upset stomach once or twice and may have Pepto Bismol. Many women dread walking out of their house with lipstick on their teeth. This can be avoided by putting a dab of Vaseline covering your front teeth before putting it on. Vaseline can also be combined with eye shadows or blush to create a custom lipstick color that moisturizes lips.
